About Us

Our Background

In the spring of 1996, Founding Monarch, Melissa Jo Murchison-Blake was in search of a sisterhood at UNC - Chapel Hill. As a biracial woman, she wanted to be part of a family that openly embraced all women and crossed cultural boundaries as Greek organization were either historically white or black. She was joined by six other women: Geeta Nadia Kapur, Natalie Nicole Barker, Peggy Virgina Long, Brenda Imade Eribo, Katherine Ellen Stanley, and Janelle Kalia Poe, to found the Almighty Alpha Chapter of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority at UNC Chapel Hill on April 11th, 1997


In the fall of 1998, Kelly Miller and Holly Woodard of NC State were introduced to Anna Lamadrid, Dean of Intake at UNC Chapel Hill. After several meetings, they decided to establish a chapter at NC State and were joined by three other women: Grace Mynn-Sun Kim, Saletta Alisha Dunbar, and Margaret Lisa Navy.On March 31, 1999, the Illustrious Beta Chapter was founded at NC State.
